The LRC is open to staff and students from 8.30 to 4.00, Monday to Thursday and from 8.30 to 3.00 on Friday. Students are welcome to use the LRC during class time, with permission from their teacher, plus during morning and lunch breaks, and after school.
As well as a large collection of both fiction and non-fiction books, the LRC provides computers, which may be used by students for school work, newspapers and magazines, and a collection of education games that students may use during break times. All students may borrow two items from the LRC for a period of two weeks – although this can be extended on request. The LRC also hold a huge collection of Accelerated books which is used in all KS3 English classes.
The LRC has a nice atmosphere that helps engage the students when they visit. It is full of colourful and interesting displays. Each month there is a theme in the LRC, this involves large displays, an excellent collection of books and is featured in all the afterschool clubs.
The LRC runs afterschool clubs four days a week:
This for year 11 only and is a time to revise and catch up on any coursework and share revision techniques with other students.
This is for all year groups. Students vote to watch a particular film out of the choice given by the LRC officer. Popcorn and squash are given free of charge. It has a real feel of the cinema but in the safe and comfortable LRC.
This is open to all year groups. Students will pick their team mates of up to six and take part in a quiz or other activities. Each student receives a certificate and prize for taking part and a larger prize for the winners. It is a very competitive evening, but lots of fun!!
This is session open to all years groups and is for general use of the LRC.
The LRC feels alive, full of excitement, enthusiasm and of course lots of happy students,
As my poem says….‘The LRC is a great place to be’
